Jesse Tree Advent Devotional
The Jesse Tree is a centuries old tradition named from Isaiah 11:1, “A shoot will spring forth from the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots.” It is a vehicle to tell the Story of God in the Old Testament, and to connect the Advent Season with the faithfulness of God across 4,000 years of history. The Branch is a biblical sign of newness out of discouragement, which became a way to talk about the expected Messiah (for example, Jeremiah 23:5). It is therefore an appropriate symbol of Jesus, who is the revelation of the grace and faithfulness of God.
This year we are inviting Emmanuel Baptist Church to participate in the Jesse Tree tradition. Each day includes a Scripture reading and devotional designed so that anyone of any age will be able to engage. For families, we hope you’ll also use the ready-to-color ornaments with your children, hang them on your tree, and remember everything that God has done throughout the Christmas season. Your Jesse Tree can serve as a very special kind of Advent calendar to help you focus on Christmas conversations with your family and friends and prepare for the celebration of Christmas this year.
Physical copies are available on campus in the lobbies of Discovery Park and the Hangar. If you wish to print out the materials at home or use a digital version, please use the links below.
